Poetry Slams

la salita cafe poetry slam

La Salita Café, Puerto Rico’s first and ONLY registered slam!

Poetry Slams at La Salita Café are a rare opportunity to experience, participate in the competitive art form of Slam Poetry and use your voice to educate and create solidarity with some of the most polished talents in Puerto Rico. Each slam has three rounds, elimination and audience choosing the winners.

The idea behind this “Voces Showcase Series Poetry Slams” is that at each regional slam (we take the Slam “road trip” throughout the Island) poets compete.

Several slams are held each month leading up to the National Poetry Slam competition. Each winner qualifies for a chance to represent their town at the Grand Slam Finale to be held in 2018 a few months before the NPS.  The goal is to send team members to compete every year to represent Puerto Rico!

A team of 5 poets (winners) from the Grand Slam will represent Puerto Rico and compete in the National Poetry Slam (PSi) competition in 2018. A first for Puerto Rico. The National Poetry Slam (PSi) is the largest team performance poetry event in the world. In it’s 28th year, the NPS brings hundreds of poets from all over North America, and a few from other places, along with thousands of audience members to converge in a different city every summer for (5) days of poetry, revelry and competition.

Don’t miss these Poetry Slams! And visit, share and contribute to our Patreon to help cover costs of promoting, marketing our work and initiative. You’re involvement in the Patreon will also help cover NPS registration fee’s, Slam Team travel and housing for five people (the team + one organizer) for six days. This will be Puerto Rico’s first slam team and also the first all Puerto Rican team in the NPS. Help us get them to Colorado!
